Shinhan Card is testing blockchain payments at its head office cafe, using experimental cryptocurrency called "SOL Token" (tentative name).
Pilot Runs at Head Office Cafe
Employees can pay for items using a QR code and a digital wallet called Kiwa Wallet. One token is equivalent to 1 won.
How it Works:
- Scan the QR Code: Employees scan the QR code with their smartphones to open Kiwa Wallet.
- Enter Amount and Sign: They enter the price of their item and complete an electronic signature.
- Payment Settled: The payment is processed using the "token" issued by Shinhan Card.
An employee described the experience as "similar to regular QR payments."
Focus on User Experience
Shinhan Card is prioritizing simplicity and ease of use. They want the process to be as straightforward as existing simple-payment services.
Next Steps
After completing a proof-of-concept phase, Shinhan Card plans to expand the blockchain payment service, aiming to integrate it into various scenarios beyond the cafe.
