HashKey Adopts Tokenised Deposit for Cross-Market Treasury and Liquidity Management on Standard Chartered's Blockchain Platform

HashKey Group (3887.HK), a leading Asian digital asset company, has been among the first institutional clients to adopt Standard Chartered’s newly launched institutional tokenised deposit solution. This solution empowers HashKey to enhance its institutional treasury management and settlement capabilities.

Tokenized deposits, the digital representations of commercial bank deposits on the blockchain, offer a range of benefits. Built on Standard Chartered’s blockchain infrastructure, they enable clients like HashKey to leverage their bank deposit balances within a secure, blockchain-based environment while maintaining the characteristics of traditional commercial bank money. Combining the security of bank deposits with the agility of blockchain technology, tokenized deposits facilitate faster, near real-time fund transfers and support more efficient cross-border liquidity management.

For HashKey, which operates across multiple jurisdictions, the ability to transfer liquidity across markets outside traditional banking hours is crucial. Digital asset activities take place around the clock, but moving funds between HashKey’s entities has been traditionally limited by banking cut-off times. Tokenized deposits bridge this gap, allowing for near real-time, extended-hour fund transfers, thereby enabling HashKey to better manage treasury positions, reduce funding friction, and deploy working capital more efficiently in support of its global operations.

Haiyang Ru, CEO of HashKey Exchange BG, shared his thoughts:

"As more assets move on-chain, fund and settlement systems must also evolve. Tokenized deposits are significant as they connect funds within the banking system more directly to the on-chain environment. Being among the first to adopt Standard Chartered’s solution is a vital step in strengthening HashKey’s institutional financial infrastructure. We look forward to exploring more efficient fund-flowing methods with global financial institutions, providing comprehensive infrastructure support for institutions engaging in on-chain finance."

Mark Willis, Head of Emerging Payments, Transaction Services and Digital Assets at Standard Chartered, added:

"Tokenized deposits can play a crucial role in connecting commercial bank money with the digital asset ecosystem, offering clients greater flexibility in managing liquidity across markets. Our collaboration with HashKey demonstrates how this technology can facilitate near real-time, extended-hour fund transfers, helping clients manage treasury and liquidity more efficiently while supporting their digital asset activities. This is about bridging the trust of traditional banking with the speed and programmability of blockchain to address real-world treasury needs."

In recent years, HashKey has consistently pushed for the development of institutional digital asset infrastructure.
