A U.S.-based blockchain intelligence firm has determined that a North Korean unit was likely responsible for the hack that affected more than $6 billion on Binance, the world's leading cryptocurrency exchange.
Binance stated that it collaborated with blockchain partners to freeze roughly $3 billion in affected assets. On Friday, the exchange announced it was beginning to recover assets for users.
They added that deposits were unaffected, while withdrawals have been suspended and are expected to resume in the next day or two, assuring that all losses will be covered.
According to their investigation, the incident may have initially involved a compromised laptop, but further inquiries revealed additional "points of breach."
TRM, in a post on its website, attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, describing it as North Korea's elite hacking unit. "We make this judgment with high confidence," they stated.
